January 15: LUTHER @ The U Street Music Hall
featuring DJs Mark Louque, Pee Play, Ryan Smith, Bil Todd
On January 15 (MAL weekend) at The U Street Music Hall, fire-starter DJs Mark Louque of the Provincetown party Fag Bash, Pee Play from San Francisco’s Honey Soundsystem, Ryan Smith of NYC’s Wrecked and Bil Todd of DC’s RAW join forces–supergroup-style–to become LUTHER, a sexy superhero sent up from the queer underground to rescue dancefloors worldwide from the horrors of homogeneous nightlife.

Showcasing the talents of four artists (DJ bios after the jump) who have been changing the landscape of American queer event culture and exporting it to the world, LUTHER embodies the new black market brotherhood of counter-culture DJs, performers and thrill-seekers who’ve taken back the dark disco night. Expect a pumping mix of underground disco, house, and electro played to a gleefully appreciative, often frisky and (soon to be) deeply dedicated crowd.

Even at the tender age of 16, Ryan Smith was obsessed with deep house and Detroit techno. These days he moonlights as deejay and doorman, that is, when he's not playing the roll of a music agent, and one part of the “homophonic” Discaire Records. Ryan's played all over NYC, where he does a monthly late-night party called Wrecked! Beyond NYC, he's played in Berlin, London; most recently at Club Butt - Butt Magazines massive warehouse party, and around the USA.

Bringing a uniquely fresh take to the gay DC clubbing scene via his monthly “RAW” parties–where the music is described as retro, throbbing, and a little sinister–this DC native’s mix of cutting edgy electro and underground gay golden age disco regularly draws an eclectic mix of nightlife adventurers and international DJs.
