January 15: LUTHER @ The U Street Music Hall
featuring DJs Mark Louque, Pee Play, Ryan Smith, Bil Todd
On January 15 (MAL weekend) at The U Street Music Hall, fire-starter DJs Mark Louque of the Provincetown party Fag Bash, Pee Play from San Francisco’s Honey Soundsystem, Ryan Smith of NYC’s Wrecked and Bil Todd of DC’s RAW join forces–supergroup-style–to become LUTHER, a sexy superhero sent up from the queer underground to rescue dancefloors worldwide from the horrors of homogeneous nightlife.
Showcasing the talents of four artists (DJ bios after the jump) who have been changing the landscape of American queer event culture and exporting it to the world, LUTHER embodies the new black market brotherhood of counter-culture DJs, performers and thrill-seekers who’ve taken back the dark disco night. Expect a pumping mix of underground disco, house, and electro played to a gleefully appreciative, often frisky and (soon to be) deeply dedicated crowd.

Mark Louque* (Provincetown)
Mark Louque is a DJ/producer from the swamps of Lutcher, Louisiana who moved to Provincetown via NYC, where he created runway soundscapes for Fashion Week. Mark regularly spins clubs in New York, San Francisco, Berlin, Boston, Barcelona, Paris and Ptown where he currently resides and produces his weekly party FAG BASH which features his signature mix of house obscurities. Some notable gigs include BUTT Magazine, PetShopBears, WOOF CLUB and the infamous back room lounge at The Black Party® (Saint at Large). He believes in redefining the queer dance floor. His latest release is featured on the soundtrack for Steve McQueen's SHAME. www.facebook.com/marklouque
Pee Play* (San Francisco)
The co-founder of Honey Soundsystem, (a DJ collective that has electrified the gay San Francisco scene) and part owner of Discaire Records, Pee Play in addition to the Sunday night Honey Soundsystem parties, has DJed at A Club Called Rhonda and Shits & Giggles (Los Angeles), Wrecked (NYC), Horse Meat Disco (London and Berlin), PhagOff (Rome), Vandam (NYC) and As You Like It and Lovefest (San Francisco). A 2011 Honey Soundsystem partnership with the Folsom Street Fair produce Deviants, the fair’s massively successful official closing party, which brought artists Miracles Club, Hard Ton, and Honey Soundsystem to what had been a predominantly circuit music weekend scene.
Ryan Smith (New York City)
Even at the tender age of 16, Ryan Smith was obsessed with deep house and Detroit techno. These days he moonlights as deejay and doorman, that is, when he's not playing the roll of a music agent, and one part of the “homophonic” Discaire Records. Ryan's played all over NYC, where he does a monthly late-night party called Wrecked! Beyond NYC, he's played in Berlin, London; most recently at Club Butt - Butt Magazines massive warehouse party, and around the USA.
Bil Todd (Washington)
Bringing a uniquely fresh take to the gay DC clubbing scene via his monthly “RAW” parties–where the music is described as retro, throbbing, and a little sinister–this DC native’s mix of cutting edgy electro and underground gay golden age disco regularly draws an eclectic mix of nightlife adventurers and international DJs.
* Mark Louque, Pee Play and Ryan Smith have all played for Butt Magazine's rare one-off events.
