Disco’s Triple Threat
After 30+ #1s, UK Trio Bimbo Jones Releases Their Smokin’ Debut CD
"And I Try" #1 on Billboard Dance Club Play chart (10/11/08)!
Gleefully drunk on the success of over 30 #1 club remixes, the hot UK dance music trio, Bimbo Jones will pop the cork on their worldwide debut album, “Harlem 1 Stop,” this Fall on legendary NYC label, Tommy Boy.
Made up of studio partners Lee Dagger and Marc JB and singer/songwriter Katherine Ellis, Bimbo Jones want the world to know they are that rare bird in the dance music world: a real dance band--emphasis on band! Though they've had dozen's of #1 remixes, the trio performs live, play all their own instruments, and tweak their own knobs. Literally. ;-) Here's how they broke it down for us:
Marc JB: Keyboards inc. Jazz piano, Rhodes, Hammond, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Percussion, Sax, "Whatever is thrown at me!: G5 Mac (running Cubase SX), HR824 Speakers, MOTU Traveler, SH101 mono synth, RGX yamaha guitar, Aria pro II guitar, Westone bass, POD Xt live guitar Fx, Marshall JTM30 Valve Amplifier, AKG solid tube valve mic, Bechsteien Piano and a Mackie 12 Channel Desk. Also a load of custom made Acoustic panels and IK Arc room correction software."
Katherine: Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Keyboards and of course Triangle! "I use a neumann microphone TLM 103, Joemeek MQ3 compressor, Akai DPS 16 and Apple Mac computers all the way!"
Lee Dagger: Bass, Drums, Percussion + Techincs SL1210’s, Pioneer CDJ 1000s, Pioneer DJM-800 mixer or EFX 500 / 1000, G4 MacBook Pro.
That cleared up, here's a little background: Lee is a UK DJ whose roots lie in funk, soul, hip hop and the house and rave scene. while JB's background lies in thrash guitar bands, Jazz and hip hop. As a remix and production team Lee and JB have provided the hit dancefloor remixes for top pop stars like Janet Jackson, Usher, PINK, Britney Spears, Ciara and Annie Lennox. Singer/songwriter, Katherine Ellis will be immediately recognizable as the vocalist and topline writer on releases by a variety of prominent names in dance music including the Freemasons, The Soul Avengerz, Dave Lee, and Roger Sanchez, and on a more underground tip, collaborations with Meat Katie, Dylan Rhymes, Lee Coombs and Tom Stephan and Bimbo Jones' own UK Club Chart #1 chart-topper, "Harlem One Stop." The trio together have uniquely written and produced a slammin’ debut album.
Tommy Boy VP, Rosie Lopez, says of the worldwide signing, "Bimbo Jones is a non-stop hit machine. The trio shares more than 30 club chart #1's in the U.K. and U.S. alone! We are all fans of their music. We had to sign them, we couldn't believe that they weren't signed and are still puzzled. Lee and JB's production skills coupled with Katherine's soaring vocals make this an irresistible album! Sit back and listen. Or better yet, get up and shake that thang, 'cause Bimbo Jones is the sound of 2008!”
And this is no exaggeration. The Bimbo Jones sound is up, funky, dirty, fun-and proven! Couple that with the band's sunny, feel-good vibe and being all-round nice people, it's no mystery that Bimbo Jones is the name clubbers look for to get the party rocking.
Packed with songs (like the current single, “And I Try”), top-notch diva deliveries, and slick-n-sweaty production, Bimbo Jones's “Harlem 1 Stop” is the album to slap on when you wanna ease on down that disco road. On Tommy Boy, Fall 2008. “And I Try” remixes are available now digitally.
Now bounce your butt over to YouTube and get to know Bimbo Jones. The video for “And I Try” is there as well as that for the album's title track (featuring a rubber-gloved Katherine Ellis tearin' it up at the kitchen sink!). If Bimbo Jones don't make you smile and shimmy drop us a line, we'll send a nurse, check ya for a pulse!

‘Harlem 1 Stop’
(Tommy Boy Silver Label)
It’s
not often a UK act gets a deal in the US before one on their own
backdoor; even rarer a dance act. So kudos to BJ for doing anything but
blowing! In ‘Harlem 1 Stop’ studio partners Lee Dagger and Marc JB, and
multi-talented singer/songwriter Katherine Ellis, have created a disco
collection to rival the Freemasons et al. The current single, ‘And I
Try’ is justifying the label’s belief currently topping the Billboard
Dance Club Play Chart Stateside at time of writing. Now the team behind
Meck’s ‘Thunder In My Heart’, together with the mighty mouthed Ms
Ellis, deliver a disco-itched workout and vocal belter that Dan Hartman
and Loleatta Holloway would respectively be proud to call their own.
The title track (that first surfaced back in April ’06) is an authentic
‘70s parody beyond belief – you’d be forgiven for thinking this were
laced with samples en masses. Feel good crossover dance music is once
more in vogue, with big glass shattering vocals similarly making a
comeback, together Bimbo Jones relighting the fire with considerable
ease. M8/M8
