Touch The Sky: Cielo’s “Cinco” Takes Us Up Where We Belong
New York City nightclub Cielo marks five years of award-winning excellence with "Cinco," the latest installment in the club's popular compilation series. Mixed by resident DJs Nicolas Matar (also Cielo's founder and owner) and Willie Graff, “Cinco” beautifully encapsulates the unique Cielo club experience for regulars, fans and discerning dance music lovers alike.
Celebrating top quality music above all else, Cielo is known for its distinctive signature sound–an elevating mix of jazz, deep house, tech-house and AfroLatin influences–and draws a worldwide audience of sophisticated, seasoned and educated dance music aficionados. Played over an appropriately state-of-the art sound system installed in the luxurious womb-like space, the music of Cielo is to many, the best dance music on Earth.
A classy place, Cielo is strikingly unique in its mission. Resident DJ François K. sums it up best: “Our aim is to provide everyone with a comfortable and convivial setting in which to enjoy music together, with a respect for your senses that we feel is mostly missing in today’s parties. Rather than using deafening sound levels, blinding lights and smoke machines, our desire is to achieve our goals in a tasteful manner, so as to create an atmosphere that can enable both devoted dancers and laid-back listeners to equally enjoy the sounds that we have come to love, as well as helping them discover new and inspiring ones.”
It is this commitment to quality that has earned Cielo the respect of discerning fans and star DJs alike, many of whom, impressively, have Cielo residencies (some monthly, some quarterly) catering to straight, gay and often mixed crowds, including: Francois K. (Deep Space), Louie Vega & Kevin Hedge (Roots), Tedd Patterson (Vibal), Carl Craig (Demon Days), Roger Sanchez (Secret Soul Sessions), Marques Wyatt (Deep), Behrouz Nazari (Dance.Here.Now.), Junior Vasquez (Freedom), JoJo Flores (Therapy), and Steve Travolta (Fresh Fruit). “Cinco” is dance music for music-lovers, a sleek, sexy, unapologetically track-centric mix that at once celebrates the beauty of the beat and the simple joy of getting ones groove on.
Cielo’s “Cinco” follows the club’s previously release mixed compilations "Cloud 9" (2005), "Paradizo" (2006) "Seventh Heaven" (2007) and "Volare" (2007).

DMC Update review: Since opening in 2003 NYC's Cielo has quickly become one of the most highly regarded clubs on the planet and with more awards to its name in that time then any other including recently being voted Best Club of 2008 at the Club World Awards. To coincide with their fifth anniversary residents Nicolas Matar and Willie Graff have mixed 'Cinco', a sleek, sexy, soul-soothing collection featuring new music and remixes from the likes of Carl Craig, Ultra Nate, Arnold Jarvis, Swayzak, Kenny Bobien, K-Scope, Charles Webster, Nick Holder, Alix Alvarez, DJ Pippi, Justin Martin and Manoo & Francois A, and a dozens more beside across 2CDs. In a time where we're increasingly being told to find new ways to let off stream from the riggers of city living, this comes as the ideal tonic. But don't just take my word - Louie Vega underscores the club's achievements when he says: 'Cielo is the blueprint for the quintessential club of today. It captures New York City nightlife at its finest. Perfect sound, decor, atmosphere and a great crowd have made it a magical venue!' – Lewis Dene, DMC Update, May 28, 2008
