Penetration did press on this impressive two-CD set, which included a sixteen-page booklet and embraced twenty-four songs by a cherry-picked roster of stellar lesbian and lesbifriendly artists. With a viewership of over 6 million weekly, gay and lesbian press (the target for this project) was obviously very receptive. Feature-sized reviews—some including an interview with Silver Label's Rosie Lopez (who worked closely with "The L Word" creator Ilene Chaiken on the soundtrack)—were widespread, appearing in The Advocate, Bay Windows (Boston), Curve, Go NYC, HX (NYC), Out And About Nashville, planetout.com, The Weekly News (Miami). Album reviews ran in almost every gay publication and website in the US including About.com., afterellen.com, gaywired, Girlfriends, Out Front Colorado, Pink, Red Nightlife, San Diego Buzz, and She. A major newspaper, the Newark Star Ledger also did a feature on the soundtrack in their Sunday edition (circulation: 687,000).
