Salomé de Bahia | Brasil
Yellow Productions Recording / Tommy Boy Entertainment
Hip cats who've been bopping to acid jazz, sipping to bossa lounge, swaying their organic groove thangs to world-inflected dance music have already been dazzled by Parisian-based Brazilian chanteuse Salomé de Bahia—particularly her international club hit, "Outro Lugar"—her glorious Brazilian cover of Stevie Wonder's "Another Star." This and fourteen other songs make up "Brasil" [Brazilian spelling], the sunny, celebratory North American debut album by produced by Frenchman, Bob Sinclar. Again, a select mailing as there was no tour (You gotta tour, people!), however lots of enthusiasm for this album and deservedly so. Popmatters.com ran two great, well-written reviews and other ran in BPM, EXP (this editor's favorite album at the time), Global Rhythm, HX, Slant, Stonewall NW, (San Diego) Update and a variety of US-based Brazilian papers and websites. •
